The municipal group Vox has announced it will not participate in or support the LGTBI event organized this Saturday by the Castelló City Council, thus distancing itself once more from the diversity initiative. The party sought to set itself apart and, in a statement, asserted that "this initiative exclusively responds to the political will of the PP", its governing partner, "without Vox sharing or participating in these types of institutional celebrations".
The deputy spokesperson for Vox, Alberto Vidal, stated that such events "respond more to an ideological agenda than to the true concerns of Castelló's residents". He argued that "public institutions must remain outside of identity-based approaches and focus on resolving citizens' real problems, especially in areas such as housing, security, urban cleanliness, or improving public services".
"If it were up to Vox, not a single euro of Castelló's taxpayers' money would be allocated to financing acts, campaigns, or spectacles of questionable taste that do not represent all homosexuals or society as a whole", affirmed Vidal, adding that "we believe administrations must manage public funds responsibly and avoid turning institutions into platforms for ideological promotion".
The deputy spokesperson insisted that Vox's position has nothing to do with people's sexual orientation. "It is more than evident that we are not against homosexuals. What we reject is the political use of certain demands to justify subsidies, propaganda campaigns, and ideological structures that thrive on confrontation and division among citizens", he stated.
Likewise, Vidal argued that the rights and freedoms of all Spaniards, regardless of their sexual orientation, are already fully guaranteed by current legislation. "There is no need for labels, flags, or institutional acts to recognize rights that already exist and must be protected equally for all citizens", he pointed out.
Vox also considers that the LGTBI movement has been "progressively monopolized by groups and lobbies that do not represent all homosexual individuals". "There is a much more plural reality than some try to convey. Many homosexuals do not feel identified with these events or the political discourse that usually accompanies them, but certain sectors attempt to impose a single vision", he added.
Finally, the deputy spokesperson reiterated that Vox "will continue to defend a municipal policy focused on management, common sense, and the general interest of all residents". "Our priority will remain ensuring better public services, a safer city, and efficient administration. Instead of a politics of symbols and gestures, we will continue working on the real problems of Castelló's residents", he concluded.
