The regional deputy for the Valencian coalition, Verónica Ruiz, will be the number one on the municipal candidacy in Castelló for 2027. Ruiz thus takes the baton from the current spokesperson, Ignasi Garcia, who has decided not to be part of the list in the upcoming elections.
With this decision, the party aims to improve on its 2023 results, when it obtained three councilors. The choice of Ruiz seeks to unite different sensibilities within the left and mobilize the electorate with the goal of regaining municipal government, currently held by PP and Vox.
Verónica Ruiz, a graduate in Philosophy and Letters from the University of Valencia, previously served as a councilor in the last legislature, leading areas such as Feminism and LGTBI, Democratic Memory, and Culture. During her tenure, the removal of the Francoist cross from Parc Ribalta was carried out.
At the presentation of the candidacy, Ruiz made herself available to the party, stating that she will bring "work capacity, honesty, and the project that the city of Castelló needs," backed by her experience in both municipal government and Les Corts.
For his part, Ignasi Garcia noted that, after ten years as spokesperson, "it is time for a change" and celebrated a woman leading the candidacy. He has ruled out being part of the list, while councilor Vera Bou has left the door open to continue if she has the party's support.
