The Unit for Violence Against Women at the Government Sub-delegation in Castellón manages the monitoring of 2,421 active cases of women victims of gender violence in the province, within the Comprehensive Monitoring System (VioGén) of the State Secretariat for Security of the Ministry of the Interior.
This Unit, organizationally integrated into the Sub-delegation and functionally dependent on the Ministry of Equality, has as its primary function the monitoring of cases of violence against women in the province, as well as the coordination of resources and services of the General State Administration for the direct attention and protection of victims.
The Government Sub-delegate in Castellón, Antonia García Valls, has emphasized that the fight against sexist violence "is a priority" and has highlighted the "importance of involving all institutions, administrations, and social, police, and judicial agents to provide a rapid and anticipatory response to victims".
The Unit promotes collaboration, defines protocols, and ensures victim monitoring and support, fostering the integration of police forces into the VioGén system. Currently, 2,421 female victims are being monitored with continuous risk assessment.
Recently, the Sub-delegation hosted the Technical Commission on Gender Violence to coordinate active cases in Castelló de la Plana, totaling 572 female victims with different risk levels. Attendees included members of the Local Police (monitoring 273 victims), the National Police (monitoring 299 victims), as well as professionals from Social Services, the Equality of Opportunity Service of the City Council of Castelló, the 24-Hour Women's Center, local residential resources, the Generalitat, Public Health, the Health Department of the General Hospital of Castellón, and the Victim Support Office.
The Technical Commissions and Psychosocial Tables on Gender Violence are coordination spaces that bring together professionals from social services, healthcare, security forces and bodies, and the legal field to assess risks, design recovery pathways, and ensure comprehensive protection.
The Government Sub-delegation convenes semi-annual meetings with 26 town councils and seven associations of municipalities (58 municipalities). Three more associations (Pla de l'Arc, Alt Palància, and Castelló Nord), encompassing 36 more municipalities, will soon join, reaching a total of 120 localities.
The head of the Unit for Violence Against Women, Rosa Marco, explained that these commissions "promote coordination among professionals from different resources and institutions" to assist and protect victims.
"Individualized monitoring of each victim is carried out to understand the protection mechanisms, confirm that everything is functioning correctly, and offer victims all legally recognized resources and rights," she indicated.
The objective is to ascertain the situation of victims with higher vulnerability profiles, analyze judicial measures and available resources, as well as the actions taken.
Furthermore, information is provided on legislative updates, expanded rights, new resources, and the use of funds from the State Pact against Gender Violence to keep professionals informed.
