Emergency services from the Provincial Fire Consortium rescued the driver of an excavator late in the morning after the vehicle fell down an embankment. The incident occurred while the worker was carrying out street paving tasks in the Los Lagos urbanization of Alginet.
The workplace accident mobilized various emergency teams, including firefighters, a helicopter for the injured person's evacuation, two ambulances, as well as personnel from the Civil Guard and the Local Police of Alginet.
The accident took place shortly before 3 PM when, for reasons yet unknown, an excavator working at the junction of Nardos and Azucenas streets in the Los Lagos urbanization plunged down the mountainside. The driver became trapped, as confirmed by municipal sources. The worker was rescued alive, although the severity of the injuries sustained has not been disclosed.
The works in which the worker was involved are part of a project to repair roads in the urban area and urbanizations affected by the DANA storm, under the Reimpulsa plan of the Ministry of Territorial Policy. In the case of Alginet, these works represent an investment of 2.5 million euros.
