The President of the Diputación de Castelló, Marta Barrachina, received several athletes from Facsa Playas de Castellón this Friday at the athletics track of the Centre d’Iniciació Tècnica Esportiva (CITD) Penyeta Roja. These athletes recently participated in the European Club Cup, where the men's team achieved second place and the women's team finished in third position.
The event also included the presence of the Sports Deputy, Iván Sánchez, and the deputy responsible for Penyeta Roja, María Tormo. They accompanied the athletes in an institutional recognition for the results achieved in the continental competition, held at the Gaetà Huguet sports complex in Castellón.
During the reception, Barrachina highlighted the role played by CITD Penyeta Roja in training young athletes who have subsequently reached national and international elite levels. She noted that many of the recognized athletes began their sporting careers there before joining the different categories of Facsa Playas de Castellón, one of the benchmark clubs in Spanish athletics.
Representing the women's team were athletes Ariadna Montalbán, Carmen Jiménez, Claudia Conte, Laura Alegre, and Naiara Pérez, members of the squad that achieved third place. For the men's team, Pablo Torrijos attended, a member of a squad that achieved second place.
Facsa Playas de Castellón is considered one of the most prominent entities in Spanish athletics. The men's team has accumulated eighteen consecutive Spanish club championship titles and has competed in eleven European finals. The Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA) recognizes it as the most decorated club in the history of Spanish athletics.
The reception held at Penyeta Roja served to highlight the connection between the province's sports talent pool and the successes achieved by the Castellón club in major national and international competitions.
