The initiative, which must pass the Government Board before being approved in the plenary session, aims to show the city's support for the Pride commemoration and reject any form of LGTBIfobia or hate speech.
Socialist spokesperson Patricia Puerta emphasized that "institutions have the obligation to clearly position themselves alongside equality, freedom, and respect" at a time when discourses questioning consolidated rights are proliferating.
Puerta highlighted that the declaration is a "democratic commitment to the dignity of all people" and trusts in the support of the entire municipal corporation to defend human rights and combat discrimination.
The socialists recall that the municipal government, formed by PP and Vox, has repeatedly avoided taking a firm stance in defense of the LGTBIQ+ community's rights, and they consider it a setback in equality and diversity.
"It will be a good opportunity to see if the Popular Party is willing to distance itself from the reactionary discourses of its government partner," stated Puerta, insisting that Castelló must continue to be an inclusive city.
