The fireworks company Crespo, from Alzira, has been disqualified from the 37th Hogueras Firework Competition in Alicante for not meeting the minimum firing time stipulated in the rules.

The first session of the competition lasted 4 minutes and 49 seconds, eleven seconds short of the mandatory five minutes required to compete. The rules establish a minimum duration of five minutes and a maximum of seven. This display used 150 kilos of pyrotechnic material, with a maximum sound peak of 124.6 decibels.
The display was dedicated to the historical Belleas del Foc (Fire Queens), an initiative supported by the mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala. Many of them attended the display from the Plaza de los Luceros, where the Belleas del Foc 2026, María Pastor and Leire Arellano, were also present with their Maids of Honor.
On this occasion, the festival representatives replaced the traditional start announcement, "Senyor pirotècnic, pot començar la mascletà" (Mr. Pyrotechnician, the firework display may begin), with a tribute to their predecessors. Moments before the display, the song "Alicantino, borracho y fino" by Funzo, the Hogueras 2026 herald, was also heard.
Pirotecnia Crespo began the display with 10 smoke effects and six thunder castles distributed around the perimeter of the square. This was followed by various sections of thunder with muffled whistles and triple whistles, before the final starting blast. The display continued with five pauses, accompanied by thunder and lightning effects that surprised the thousands of spectators gathered in Luceros.
The final 'earthquake' effect consisted of four passes distributed across 40 sequences of different calibers. The display concluded with 20 turbo candles, 200 discharge shells, 10 large-caliber thunder castles lasting ten seconds, and another 200 thunder shells.
The Alzira-based firm was making its second consecutive appearance in Alicante after years of not participating in the Hogueras, since June 23, 2000. However, the final duration of the display led to the disqualification of the pyrotechnics company, much to the surprise of the public and the disappointment of the pyrotechnic team.
The competition will continue this Saturday, June 20, with the participation of Pirotecnia Turís in the second session of the Mascletàs Competition.
