Castellón City Council has initiated improvements in Meridiano Park, a unique natural space, to bolster its conservation and enhance visitor experience.

Castellón City Council has launched new initiatives in Meridiano Park, one of the city's most emblematic natural and heritage sites. The primary goal is to improve its conservation, enhance its appearance, and ensure enjoyment for both residents and visitors.
The improvements include replacing 500 linear meters of wooden sleepers bordering the interior paths, which have deteriorated over time. The central wooden bridge, spanning the internal irrigation channel, will also be repaired, and the channel itself will be cleaned as part of the maintenance.
Additionally, wooden elements such as picnic tables will be restored, undergoing stripping and repainting. Benches will also be renewed, and perimeter hedges will be trimmed. All trees will be inspected to remove branches broken by recent winds, thereby increasing safety.
These actions are part of the City Council's Renaturalization Plan, aimed at preserving and highlighting the city's green spaces, promoting their use for leisure and community activities. Ester Giner, Deputy Mayor of El Grau, emphasized the park's importance to residents of El Grau and La Marjalería, and how these improvements contribute to revitalizing the maritime district.
Meridiano Park, covering approximately 10,780 square meters, is located in the Castellón's Marjalería region, an area of significant ecological value with irrigation channels and rich biodiversity. It is a unique site due to its geographical relevance, marking the intersection of the 0º Meridian and the 40º North parallel. The park also features heritage elements like the Meridian monolith and the hermitage of the Virgen de la Asunción.
