The City Council of La Pobla Llarga has joined a European proposal, led by Rome, aimed at strengthening citizen participation in the democratic life of the European Union.

This initiative is part of the CERV-2026-CITIZENS-CIV program, whose main objective is to promote active citizen involvement in European affairs, extending beyond traditional electoral processes.
The candidacy, jointly promoted by the City Council of Rome and the Union of European Federalists (UEF), brings together various cities across the continent, including Brussels and Barcelona. Its purpose is to develop new avenues for citizen participation in decisions affecting the future of Europe.
The project envisions a wide range of participatory activities in different European countries. These include citizen assemblies, public debates, and agoras. Additionally, innovative initiatives such as Europe on Trial or simulations of the European Parliament within the framework of the European Youth Parliament are included. European awareness days, meetings with key stakeholders, and the creation of a European newsletter focusing on the rights and opportunities offered by the European Union to its citizens will also be carried out.

"The participation of La Pobla Llarga demonstrates that Europe is built from the local level. Cities are the primary space for European citizenship, and their involvement is essential to strengthen a more participatory, inclusive, and citizen-oriented democracy."
