The Port Authority and the Castelló Firefighters (la Plana Alta) will begin using a drone for maritime surveillance and safety tasks, particularly in response to potential emergencies during the summer season.
One of the significant advantages of this tool is its immediacy in responding to emergencies. "It takes us five seconds to launch the drone," stated Antonio Costa, an officer with the Castelló Firefighters. He added that the device can also be used outside of summer or beach service hours, thereby extending coastal safety.
Despite its proven effectiveness in beach safety, professionals highlight the drone's utility in other professional fields, such as surveillance and protection at the Port of Castelló. According to Luis Soria, head of security for the Port Authority of Castelló, the drone is crucial for "infrared detection, especially of contaminants in the water. The human eye often finds it difficult to detect these, and it will be a tool that enhances our capabilities."
Another application of this multifaceted technology is counting people at large-scale events. "It provides a real estimate of how many people are in the area and whether we are approaching capacity limits," the fire officer explained. Consequently, the teams in the Castelló municipality are integrating technology that will allow them to complement and improve their work.
