The city of Castellón has concluded the registration phase for the volunteer campaign organized for the total solar eclipse scheduled for August 12, 2026. The initiative has generated significant public interest, with a total of 214 participation requests received. This volume of registrations highlights the high level of citizen involvement in an exceptional event that will position the city as a prime location for observing the astronomical phenomenon.
Of the applications, 201 were submitted through the municipal website form, 9 were completed at the Planetarium of Castellón, and 4 were submitted via the district deputy mayor's offices.
Currently, the analysis, evaluation, and selection process for candidates is beginning to form an operational team suited to the organizational needs of a day expected to attract a large number of national and international visitors. Criteria such as availability, qualifications, and language proficiency will be particularly valued, given the event's tourist and scientific dimensions.
“"The response from the citizens has been extraordinary and confirms the interest that a unique phenomenon like the total solar eclipse of 2026 arouses. More than two hundred people have wanted to voluntarily join this city project, which demonstrates Castellón's commitment to the organization of this event."
The Councilor for Tourism, Arantxa Miralles, positively assessed the response, emphasizing the importance of citizen involvement. She added that the City Council will undertake a selection process in the coming weeks to form the definitive team of volunteers, considering criteria of availability, training, and specific skills, especially in public service and language use.
Miralles highlighted that volunteers will be a key element in the overall organizational plan for the eclipse, performing information, guidance, and logistical support functions. The volunteers' involvement will contribute to a smooth, safe, and high-quality experience for visitors, further projecting an image of Castellón as a prepared and welcoming destination. Selected individuals will receive specific prior training at the Planetarium of Castellón.
