The Councilor for Infrastructures and Urban Services of Castellón, Sergio Toledo, has checked the condition of the new dog recreation area that has been set up next to the Palau de la Festa and which has been operational since last weekend. Toledo highlighted that “this space is not just a dog toilet area, but a zone designed for animals to play freely, interact with other dogs, and enjoy the outdoors in a more integrated and natural environment”.
The new area has been established following the relocation of the existing dog space in Sensal, as the land it previously occupied is part of the area affected by the Plan Vive, where the construction of 123 public protection housing units for young people is planned on two plots in the area. These actions are part of the municipal government's commitment to facilitate access to housing and promote the construction of nearly 3,800 homes, of which around 40% will be public protection housing.
The councilor explained that the location of the new enclosure “was developed in agreement with the users of the dog recreation area, seeking the best possible solution for dogs to play, run, and socialize in a suitable space, while ensuring coexistence with residents and neighborhood tranquility”. In this regard, he pointed out that “a balance has been sought between the needs of pet owners and the demands of the area's residents, also addressing noise complaints that had occurred in the previous location”.
Sergio Toledo stated that “the city is changing and moving towards a greener, more livable, and more useful model for its residents”. In this sense, he recalled that “Castellón will soon have the largest urban forest in the city, as part of our commitment to renaturalize public spaces, address the housing problem, and improve citizens' quality of life”.
The councilor, accompanied by a dog trainer, was able to verify the functionality of this new enclosure, where dogs have a green area to run and play, specific fountains for them, dog furniture, and benches for their accompanying humans to sit on. “It is a modern, useful, and practical space that allows animals to move freely and their owners to enjoy a comfortable and safe area,” affirmed Toledo.
The new dog recreation area will be open from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM and will be exclusively for dogs. The enclosure has a series of basic usage rules to ensure coexistence, safety, and proper maintenance of the space. Among these rules, it is reminded that owners are responsible for their animals, that dogs must wear a collar, and that the use of punishment collars is not permitted. Dogs in heat will also not be allowed access, and animals must be properly vaccinated and in good health.
Furthermore, users must clean up after their pets, prevent animals from digging or attempting to escape the enclosure, and in the case of potentially dangerous dogs, they must wear a muzzle at all times. If a dog exhibits aggressive behavior, its owner must leash it and remove it from the space. Likewise, bringing food or drink into the enclosure is not permitted.
