The city of Castellón is preparing to host the 2026 National Absolute Boccia Championship, taking place from June 12th to 14th at the Ciutat de Castelló pavilion, bringing together the 40 best athletes in the country.

Castellón residents Mª Teresa Alemany and Carlos Pérez have qualified for the 2026 National Absolute Boccia Championship, to be held at the Ciutat de Castelló pavilion between June 12th and 14th. The capital of La Plana will become the epicenter of national adapted sports, gathering the 40 top-ranked athletes for the most relevant official competition in this discipline in Spain.
The tournament will feature 10 participants in each of the four official categories (BC1, BC2, BC3, and BC4), ensuring a highly competitive level. Among them will be Alemany (in BC2) and Pérez (in BC4), a testament to the work of the Esport Club Maset de Frater, founded in October 1997, which promotes participation in regional and national competitions, constantly seeking technical and strategic improvements.
The Castellón-based entity has achieved several medals, including the Spanish Championship for Joaquín Muñoz (BC5, 2022), the Spanish Cup for Juan Rodríguez (BC2, 2023), and the Spanish Championship in BC4 pairs for Carlos Pérez this year. The club approaches the upcoming championship with "great enthusiasm" and "pride" for hosting it for the first time at home, hoping to promote this sport.
The championship is driven by the Esport Club Maset de Frater, COCEMFE Castelló, Frater Castelló, the Spanish Federation of Sports for People with Cerebral Palsy (FEDPC), and the Federació d’Esports Adaptats de la Comunitat Valenciana (FESA).
Boccia, described as the "chess" of precision sports, is a high-strategy game designed for individuals with cerebral palsy or severe physical disabilities. Players, from their wheelchairs, throw balls (red or blue) as close as possible to a white ball (the jack), using their hand, foot, or a ramp. Tactics are key to winning.
Activities will commence on Friday, June 12th, with functional classification and equipment review. The official competition will take place on Saturday, June 13th, with the group stage (from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM), and on Sunday, June 14th, with semifinals and finals, concluding with the medal ceremony at 1:00 PM.
The championship is supported by the City Council of Castellón and its Sports Board, the Sergio García Foundation, and various collaborating companies such as UBE, Geotiles, Construcciones y reformas Menero, Reformas Rosa, Ortopedia DEAO, Viedgestions, the Rototom Sunshplash festival, Nou Disseny, and Intur.
COCEMFE Castelló, representing over 3,500 people with disabilities in the province, emphasizes the importance of these events in raising awareness for inclusive sports and promoting equal opportunities.
