The public entity Reciplasa has assured that waste collection and treatment will continue without interruptions in the 46 municipalities it serves. This guarantee comes after an industrial fire broke out on Sunday at its plant located in the municipality of Onda, a fire that remains active early this Monday.
“"The effective and coordinated management deployed since last night has allowed immediate solutions to be implemented to avoid interruptions in waste treatment."
The entity's president coordinated the operation together with the mayor of Onda, Reciplasa's technical team, and the provincial deputy for Firefighters. He emphasized that there were no personal injuries, as the fire occurred on a Sunday when the plant was closed.
Thanks were extended to the Provincial Fire Consortium of Castellón, whose intervention was crucial in containing the fire and preventing it from affecting the forest mass in the municipal area. Additionally, other waste consortia in the Valencian Community will take over and redistribute the approximately 500 daily tons usually processed at these facilities.
The fire originated around 5:40 PM on Sunday at the company located in the Regall de L'Avellar area. The flames are affecting an outdoor storage area with accumulated wooden pallets, vehicles, and various materials. The fire generated a large column of smoke, leading to the preventive evacuation of several homes in the Bovalar area.
Early this Monday, extinction efforts are focused on containing the fire's advance and protecting both the company's main storage area and the facility's warehouses. Four units from the Castellón Provincial Fire Department, an articulated tanker truck with a capacity of 35,000 liters, two command units, a headquarters unit, and two units from the Generalitat Valenciana Forest Firefighters Corps are involved.
The Generalitat's Emergency Coordination Center issued recommendations for nearby residents, including keeping doors and windows closed, staying indoors as much as possible, closing external air inlets like chimneys or extractor hoods, reducing indoor pollution sources, and limiting physical activity both outdoors and indoors.
