The political landscape of the province of Castellón is beginning to take shape for the 2027 municipal elections. Several parties have already confirmed replacements or continuities in the main town halls, while others await their internal processes. The capital, la Plana, sees the PP betting on the continuity of the current mayor, Begoña Carrasco, with Vox as a partner. In the PSPV, Rafa Simó is emerging as the socialist candidate, and Compromís announces the replacement of Verònica Ruiz by Ignasi Garcia. Antonio Ortolá remains the reference for Vox.
In Vila-real, Adrián Casabó has presented himself as the PP's proposal to try to regain the mayoralty. The uncertainty about José Benlloch repeating as the head of the socialist candidacy remains. For their part, Maria Fajardo, the current deputy mayor, is Compromís's main option. In Burriana, both the popular mayor Jorge Monferrer and the socialist Maria Josep Safont are awaiting decisions from their parties.
The socialist calendar will accelerate after the summer, with primaries and local assemblies scheduled from September and October for municipalities over 20,000 inhabitants. The provincial general secretary, Samuel Falomir, assures that socialist mayors who wish to continue will be able to repeat. The continuity of figures like Tania Baños in la Vall d'Uixó, Maria Jiménez in Orpesa del Mar, and Samuel Falomir himself in l'Alcora is expected.
In la Vall d'Uixó, Compromís confirms Jorge Marqués as the replacement for Fernando Daròs. In the PP, Herminio Serra is set to lead the project. In Almassora, mayor María Tormo (PP) and socialist Merche Galí are poised for another electoral contest. In the north of the province, in Vinaròs, the current deputy mayor Juan Amat (PP) would repeat as candidate, while the PSPV maintains Guillem Alsina. The Partit de Vinaròs Independent (PVI) points to the continuity of María Dolores Miralles, and Podem presents Roger Solsona.
In Benicarló, uncertainties arise in both the PP, with current mayor Juanma Cerdà, and the PSPV, with Ilde Añó. In Onda, Carmina Ballester will seek a third consecutive absolute majority, while Susana Marqués is oriented as the PP's choice. In Nules, David García leads the Municipalistas project. In Orpesa, the popular mayor Rafael Albert will leave local politics. In Segorbe, Carmen Climent, and in Morella, Bernabé Sangüesa, still need to confirm their candidacies. Smaller municipalities like Xilxes, Vilafranca, Benassal, or Albocàsser are already presenting candidates.
