The Mayor of Nules, David García, has officially announced that he has handed over to the municipal legal services the file of statements issued by opposition parties (PP and VOX), as well as various comments published on social media. The objective is to study whether these declarations infringe upon the right to honor of councilwoman Gemma Carratalá due to alleged defamation and slander. The announcement was made public during the ordinary plenary session of the City Council, where the mayor forcefully defended the constitutional principle of the presumption of innocence.
The head of the local executive recalled that in a state of law there are fundamental rules that cannot be transgressed under any circumstances and stated that in political debate “not everything goes”. During his intervention in the plenary session, García emphasized that the Spanish Constitution itself establishes the presumption of innocence as an inalienable fundamental right for all citizens, which must be respected above partisan disputes.
The mayor lamented the public situation that the municipal representative of Nules is experiencing. “They are persecuting a councilwoman who has committed no crime; in fact, there is neither a judicial investigation nor an open case,” García asserted, referring to the lack of legal grounds for the accusations. The mayor criticized those who have rushed to prematurely judge and condemn the councilwoman in the public sphere, stating facts he considers extremely serious.
The Governing team has confirmed that it will not tolerate these attitudes and will take legal action immediately. “We will take them to court so they retract and apologize for the reputational and personal damage caused,” warned the mayor, recalling that in the legal system, no one has to prove their innocence; guilt must be proven where appropriate. García described the opposition's strategy as "garbage politics" due to a lack of management alternatives.
The legal offensive by the Nules City Council will materialize in a matter of days. According to municipal sources, the City Council plans to file the corresponding complaint with the court once the compilation file is completed in a few days, thus seeking to restore the dignity and right to honor of councilwoman Gemma Carratalá in the face of what they consider an unjustified defamation campaign.
