The Burriana City Council has announced a new edition of the Burriana City Award for Historical Research, aiming to foster studies focused on the municipality's past, documentary heritage, and historical memory.

The initiative includes a main prize of 2,000 euros and a specific category for students from the Universitat Jaume I (UJI). The call for entries, promoted by the Archive department, seeks to encourage original research projects related to local history and the analysis of documents or materials linked to the capital of La Plana Baixa. The competition is divided into two distinct categories to cover both professional researchers and university students.
The general category is open to all adults who submit unpublished projects on the history of Burriana. The prize is endowed with 2,000 euros, payable in two installments: half upon project selection and the remainder upon submission of the final study.
The second category is the Francisco Roca i Alcayde award, aimed at students enrolled in the History and Heritage or Humanities degrees at the UJI who are developing their Final Degree Project on local history topics. In this case, the prize money will be 200 euros.
The deadline for submitting projects is October 30, 2026. Submissions must be anonymous, using a sealed envelope system, and delivered to the relevant municipal offices. The jury will comprise technical and cultural officials from the City Council, along with a representative from the UJI's Department of History, Geography, and Art.

"This award represents an excellent opportunity to continue shedding light on unpublished chapters of our local history and give the importance it deserves to the valuable documentary heritage we safeguard in Burriana. With the continuation of this award, we not only encourage the work of experienced researchers but also open a window for direct collaboration with the young talent from the Universitat Jaume I."
