The Valencian Antifraud Agency has opened an investigation into the contracting of Nules' Violet Points during the August 2023 festivals. The file indicates «alleged irregularities in the awarding of the service to the brother of the Equality councilwoman, Gemma Carratalà, as well as possible conflicts of interest, procedural deficiencies, and irregular use of public funds».
According to the information known, the contract amounted to 6,670 euros, «an amount higher than that paid in previous years for similar services». Antifraude also suggests that «the contractor had not materially executed the service and that the professionals who provided it were not registered in the corresponding Social Security scheme at the time of the activity».
The councilwoman has defended that she resorted to her brother as an «exceptional solution» due to the difficulty of finding staff to cover the service during the festivals. Carratalà has assured that «neither the Red Cross nor the LGTBI Platform accepted to manage it due to lack of personnel» and has acknowledged procedural errors, although she maintains that «there was no personal gain» for her or her brother.
The PP of Nules has requested the mayor, David García, to create an investigative commission to clarify what happened and explain what actions the City Council has taken since becoming aware of the Antifraude file. The local PP president, Miguel Ángel Martínez Montés, has asked for «detailed» knowledge of «the expenses paid by the people of Nules» and for measures to be taken to prevent a similar situation from happening again. Furthermore, he has questioned the silence of the government partners, PSPV and Més Nules.
For its part, VOX Nules has demanded the immediate resignation of the Equality councilwoman and has requested public explanations from the mayor. Its spokesperson, Javier Prior, considers the events «very serious» and maintains that the case affects the image and credibility of the City Council.
