The province of Castellón is once again solidifying its position as a live music hub in Spain during the summer months. Over a three-month period, its coast and interior will host various festivals attracting hundreds of thousands of people from across Europe, with a lineup spanning punk and reggae to urban pop, electronic, and indie music.
The first to kick off will be Concerts del Pinar, celebrating its sixth edition from June 18-20 in the Pinar del Grao of Castellón. This festival, a benchmark for provincial punk and alternative rock, will offer free entry on Thursday the 18th featuring local bands. On Friday the 19th, Narco will perform as part of their 30th-anniversary tour, alongside O’Funk’illo and The Casualties. Saturday the 20th will feature closing acts Non Servium, with Bala, Parquesvr, and Deaf Devils. Day tickets cost 15 euros, and a full three-day pass is 25 euros.
The Festival Internacional de Benicàssim (FIB) will mark its 30th anniversary from July 16-18. To celebrate this milestone, the organization has curated a lineup blending indie and rock legends with contemporary acts. Thursday the 16th will feature Franz Ferdinand; Friday the 17th will see The Kooks, Pendulum Live, and Kaiser Chiefs; and Saturday the 18th will be closed by The Prodigy and Biffy Clyro. The lineup also includes artists such as Lori Meyers, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Dorian, La Habitación Roja, Jet, and The Fratellis, totaling over 40 artists. Season tickets start from 55 euros, and day tickets from 44.99 euros.
With a capacity for over 300,000 people, Arenal Sound in Burriana (July 30 - August 2) stands out as the most crowded festival. Its sixteenth edition focuses on urban music, electronic, and pop, with confirmed headliners including Myke Towers, María Becerra, Ana Mena, Dimitri Vegas, Delaossa, Juan Magan, Íñigo Quintero, and Omar Montes, among more than 50 artists. General admission passes start at 70 euros, and the venue on Arenal Beach offers free camping and parking.
Finally, from August 16-22, Benicàssim will host the Rototom Sunsplash, Europe's most significant reggae festival, celebrating its 31st edition. This year introduces a Welcome Party on August 16th with eight hours of continuous music. From August 17-22, the venue transforms into a temporary city with six stages, a camping area, a social forum, workshops, and international gastronomy. The lineup already confirms Major Lazer Soundsystem, Shenseea, Protoje, Israel Vibration, Dub Inc, BigaRanx, and Alpha Blondy, drawing over 250,000 annual visitors from more than 100 countries.
The diversity of musical offerings within a small geographical area and a short timeframe is what makes Castellón's summer music scene unique. The province presents punk in Grao, indie-rock and rock in Benicàssim, urban pop in Burriana, and international reggae again in Benicàssim, a concentration of top-tier festivals unmatched by other Spanish provinces.
