In an emotional investiture speech, Rafa Carrió, the new mayor of Dénia, expressed his deep emotion and the great responsibility he feels upon taking office. Carrió emphasized that his political vocation has always been to help and improve things, and that the mayorship is not an end of the road, but a new stage he faces with enthusiasm, responsibility, and respect.
He defined the mayorship not as a personal aspiration or a privilege, but as a collective aspiration and a tool to better reach people, listen more, and be closer. Carrió defended the coherence of the change as respect for an agreement based on trust and a shared city project, the result of many years of work by people committed to Dénia.
The new mayor paid special tribute to Sebastià Garcia, whom he considers his role model, highlighting his way of understanding politics as public service, involvement, and improving people's lives. Carrió thanked the presence of authorities, colleagues from the council, family, and friends, and acknowledged the work of Vicent Grimalt and the continuing council members.
Carrió reiterated his intention to be a dialoguing mayor, one who listens and defends his convictions, but also recognizes good ideas from others. He called for the recovery of "civil friendship", the ability to disagree respectfully, and to place Dénia above any political consideration. "A house divided against itself cannot stand," he recalled, quoting Abraham Lincoln.
He emphasized the need to discuss important challenges such as housing, educational investments, opportunities for young people, dignified places for the elderly, environmental challenges, and the tourism model, considering them too important to turn into a party battle. Therefore, he extended his hand to all political groups, administrations, and individuals willing to work honestly for Dénia.
Finally, Carrió assured that he will try to be honest, listen, help, and admit his mistakes with humility. He expressed his hope that any citizen, regardless of their vote, can think that he will be a mayor who listens to them. He especially thanked the support of his team, friends, and family, highlighting the importance of values and love for Dénia above any position.
