The city of Torrent will position itself as a benchmark in public innovation and digital transformation with the celebration of the conference “Digital-IA: Artificial Intelligence for Public Administration”. The event, organized by the ValgrAI Foundation in collaboration with the Torrent City Council, will take place on June 11th at the Sala Cívica of l’Antic Mercat. It will bring together specialists, institutional representatives, and technology professionals to discuss the opportunities offered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the improvement of public services.
The meeting, which will run between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM, will also serve to present the balance of the Digital-IA program. This initiative, promoted by the Generalitat Valenciana and managed by ValgrAI, has already provided free training in digital skills and AI to hundreds of municipalities throughout the Valencian Community.
The event will feature the participation of the Director General of Local Administration of the Generalitat Valenciana, José Antonio Redorat; the Director General of the ValgrAI Foundation, Vicent Botti; and the mayor of Torrent and provincial deputy responsible for the Artificial Intelligence area, Amparo Folgado. These figures will inaugurate a conference designed to show how AI is already contributing to modernizing public administration and improving the relationship between city councils and citizens.
The conference will focus on concrete examples of how AI can make public services more agile, efficient, and closer to people. The managing director of ValgrAI, Ana Cidad, will present the results of the Digital-IA program, which since its launch has provided free training in digital skills and AI to citizens from Valencian municipalities and localities affected by the Dana. The program offers accessible training for a wide spectrum of the population, contributing to reducing the digital divide.
Mayor Amparo Folgado has highlighted that “Artificial Intelligence must be at the service of people and become a useful tool to improve the lives of our neighbors. We are talking about a technology capable of helping us provide better services, streamline procedures, anticipate certain needs, and offer a more accessible and effective administration that is closer to citizens”.
One of the main attractions of the conference will be the presentation of real AI applications in the municipal sphere. Jordi Linares, professor at the Polytechnic University of Valencia and researcher at ValgrAI, will give the workshop ‘How AI can help in municipal administration’, aimed at optimizing internal processes and facilitating decision-making. Subsequently, Rafael Berlanga, professor at the Jaume I University and researcher at ValgrAI, will present the Revitalia project, a success story for improving municipal management.
The conference will also include presentations related to recovery after the Dana. Carlos Monserrat, a researcher at ValgrAI and the Polytechnic University of Valencia, will present AI applications for the recovery of photographs damaged by the Dana. Additionally, Vicent Botti will address the potential of AI for the early prevention of climate emergencies through predictive systems.
The program will conclude with a round table on the use of AI in city councils, moderated by Vicent Botti, with the participation of representatives from the Provincial Council of Valencia, digital transformation specialists, and experts from ValgrAI. Mayor Folgado has emphasized that “Torrent wants to be a city that actively participates in the digital transformation of public administrations, doing so with purpose, responsibility, and always thinking about improving citizens' quality of life”.
The conference is promoted by the ValgrAI Foundation, an entity comprising the Generalitat Valenciana, the five public universities of Valencia, and companies from the technology sector. “The public innovation of the future will be that which combines technology, knowledge, and proximity,” concluded the mayor.
