Basketball player Claudia Contell, born in Manises and trained for a decade within the Valencia Basket structure, will continue her sports career in the United States after signing with Texas Christian University (TCU), located in Fort Worth.

Contell's incorporation into the Horned Frogs team has been announced by the university itself, which includes her in its roster for the 2026-27 season. This move represents a new international leap for a player from l’Horta who has accumulated experience in the Liga Femenina Endesa, European competitions, and the Spanish national youth teams.
TCU has highlighted the trajectory of the Valencian guard, who this season competed for CB Gran Canaria and later for CAB Estepona. With the Gran Canarian team, she averaged 16.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 2.3 steals per game, while at Estepona she contributed 10.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2.2 steals in an average of 27 minutes.
The signing places Contell in an increasingly attractive scenario for European women's basketball. The NCAA and the WNBA have become hubs for sporting and media growth for many young players, in a context where the Liga Femenina Endesa is seeing several Spanish prospects opt to continue their development in the United States.
Claudia Contell's career is closely linked to L’Alqueria del Basket. The player joined Valencia Basket in the U-10 category in 2014, coming from CB Jovens L’Eliana, and progressed through various youth categories until debuting with the first team in January 2021 in a game of EuroCup Women. With the 'taronja' club, she played 63 games across the Liga Femenina Endesa, EuroCup Women, EuroLeague Women, Supercopa LF Endesa, and Copa.
During her time at Valencia Basket, Contell was part of the team that won the EuroCup Women in the 2020-21 season and also participated in a structure that achieved national and international titles. Subsequently, the player expanded her elite experience with loans and stints at Hozono Global Jairis, Cadí La Seu, CB Gran Canaria, and CAB Estepona.
Internationally, Contell has also been a regular player for Spain's youth national teams. Her peak moment came at the 2022 U-20 European Championship, where she was named MVP after leading Spain to the continental title. TCU also recalled this recognition in the presentation of its new signing.
The move from Manises to the NCAA coincides, moreover, with her presence in the new call-up for España Futuro, the Spanish Basketball Federation's project to strengthen young female talent. This list also includes Elba Garfella, another player from Manises, reinforcing the importance of l’Horta in the immediate future of Spanish women's basketball.
With this move, Claudia Contell opens a new chapter at a university that has strengthened its roster to compete at the highest level in US collegiate basketball. Her arrival at TCU confirms the international projection of a player developed in the Valencian youth system and now established as one of the prominent names in women's basketball emerging from l’Horta.
