The Aldaia City Council has announced it will request a Local Security Board to clarify the distortion in crime statistics caused by the Bonaire Shopping Center.

Official crime statistics have raised alarms in Aldaia, but the council believes the data does not reflect the reality on its streets. Therefore, it will formally request the National Police and the Civil Guard to convene an urgent Local Security Board. The aim is to clarify the significant distortion that the Bonaire Shopping Center causes in the municipality's crime figures for the L'Horta Sud region.
Municipal sources report that "all thefts committed in the Bonaire Shopping Center are counted in the statistics as if they were crimes committed in the urban area of Aldaia." This unification of data creates a false perception of the locality's actual safety.
The notable increase in offenses, when comparing the first quarter of 2026 with the same period last year, has a specific technical explanation. During the first quarter of 2025, the Bonaire Shopping Center was closed due to the severe impact of the DANA (heavy rainfall). With the return to normal commercial activity and massive visitor influx in 2026, the usual thefts in large retail spaces have resumed, artificially inflating year-on-year percentage comparisons.
The governing team laments the impact of this counting system on the municipality's reputation: "Attributing thefts occurring at the Bonaire Shopping Center to the town of Aldaia harms our municipality's image by presenting inflated crime data that does not align with reality and creates unjustified alarm."
Through this request for a Local Security Board, the City Council seeks for the commanders of the National Police and the Civil Guard to verify and clarify this situation. The objective is to technically separate crimes occurring in the residential core from those related to the commercial activity of Bonaire, thereby ensuring transparent and truthful information for citizens.
