Paterna's video surveillance cameras have been key to the arrest of three men as alleged perpetrators of aggravated theft, assault on law enforcement officers, and resisting arrest. The individuals were caught attempting to steal a vehicle's catalytic converter parked on Benimar Street.
The municipal surveillance system detected the entry into the municipality of a vehicle linked to previous robbery investigations in the province of Valencia. This alert triggered a special perimeter lockdown operation involving 25 Local Police officers, who controlled access points to prevent the suspects' escape.
The alleged perpetrators were surprised during the theft and, upon realizing the police presence, fled on foot in different directions. Several simultaneous pursuits ensued, culminating in the interception of the three individuals on Mediterráneo Street, the N-220 highway, and Ciudad de Sevilla Street.
Citizen collaboration was also crucial. Information provided by residents helped locate the suspects during their escape, aiding the police operation until the arrests were completed.
Deputy Mayor for Internal Affairs, Nuria Campos, highlighted the importance of combining a well-prepared police force, an advanced video surveillance network, and community cooperation to enhance security and effectively combat crime.
For his part, the Chief of Paterna Local Police, Rafael Mestre, emphasized the speed of detection thanks to video surveillance, which allowed for an anticipatory police response and the activation of a coordinated operation that proved decisive in preventing the perpetrators' escape and proceeding with their arrest.
