The Plaça Major in Meliana will be the epicenter of the Tomato Fair, an annual event aimed at supporting local farmers and promoting the consumption of proximity produce. Visitors can purchase tomatoes directly from producers, participate in educational activities, attend showcookings, and taste culinary creations prepared by local restaurants.
The program will kick off on Tuesday, June 16th, with the official presentation at the Alqueria de Cañón, introducing participating farmers. On Thursday, June 18th, a talk titled 'Health in Every Bite' will be given by clinical nutritionist Maite Martínez Orts, followed by a showcooking and tomato sorbet tasting.
On Saturday, June 20th, the main day of the fair, doors open at 9:00 AM with direct tomato sales. The morning will also feature oil pairings and tastings organized by Aceites Albert, the official inauguration, and the solidarity market of the AECC Meliana. For children, a 'Plant Your Tomato Plant' workshop and games are planned.
Gastronomy will play a significant role with tastings made from Meliana tomatoes by restaurants from the Club Meliana Cor d’Horta. In the afternoon, the II Caragolà de Meliana will take place, featuring snail tastings and a special showcooking.
The V Tomato Fair not only celebrates the agricultural and gastronomic identity of Meliana but also has a solidarity aspect, with all proceeds from the tastings going to the Meliana Cancer Association.
