The former Culture Councillor of La Pobla de Farnals for sixteen years and the first president of the Mancomunitat de l’Horta Nord has been recognized for his career linked to the defense of the Valencian language and its normalization in municipal public life.
This recognition took place within the framework of the XXXIX Trobada d’Escoles en Valencià de l’Horta Nord, where the musicologist and the Colla de Dimonis de Massalfassar were also distinguished.
“"My whole life has been a struggle for the language."
The former councilman places the origin of this vocation in his childhood in Massalfassar, at a time when Valencian had little presence in official spheres. Throughout his career, he has witnessed the historical difficulties in achieving the normalization of Valencian.
During his time as Culture Councillor of La Pobla de Farnals, between 1979 and 1995, he played an active role in introducing Valencian into municipal public life. Measures promoted during that period included the incorporation of Valencian into official documentation and plenary acts, the adaptation of street names and the municipality's own name, as well as the introduction of the language into the educational sphere.
These initiatives contributed to consolidating the presence of Valencian in administration, education, and urban spaces. His work also developed in a complex context, marked by local industrial growth and the arrival of Spanish-speaking population linked to employment centers such as food sector companies.
“"The language must be defended continuously. The moment we become complacent, we can lose it."
The distinction is part of a regional event held under the motto 'We have history, we are future,' which brought together thousands of people and reinforced the role of Valencian as an element of social and cultural cohesion in l’Horta Nord.
