Both academic institutions have issued statements defending the need to protect students' right to carry out their academic activities and face the university entrance exams (PAU) in conditions of normality, stability, and confidence, especially as decisive dates for their future approach.
The UPV, furthermore, has conveyed a message of reassurance to students and families, guaranteeing that it will provide all necessary organizational and material resources, in coordination with the competent educational authorities, to ensure the proper development of the exams on its campuses. These exams begin next Tuesday.
For its part, the UJI has pointed out that public education faces difficulties that it considers necessary to address “with a willingness for understanding and shared responsibility”. The Castellón-based university has highlighted the role of public education as a “key instrument for social cohesion” and one of the essential pillars of the welfare society.
The academic institution has sought to value the essential role of teaching staff and recognize their work, requesting that “as soon as possible” commitments be established that allow for realistic progress on the issues of concern to teachers, students, families, and the public in general.
These requests join those made by the University of Valencia (UV), which on Thursday called for “as soon as possible” commitments to be established that allow for realistic progress on the issues of concern to teachers, students, families, and, ultimately, all citizens.
The unions convening the strike, STEPV, CCOO, and UGT, reject the negotiation calendar proposed by the Conselleria d'Educació and request its resumption over the weekend. This Friday, moreover, they will submit the administration's documents and possible new contributions to a vote by teaching staff. Negotiations remain open and, barring changes, will resume next week with a reworked proposal from the administration.
