Former Valencia mayor Joan Ribó has sent a proposal to the Compromís per València executive to "rapidly advance" the ratification of Mónica Oltra as the municipal candidate, expressing concern over the city's "degradation".

Former Valencia mayor Joan Ribó has urged the Compromís per València executive to expedite the necessary procedures to democratically ratify Mónica Oltra as the candidate for mayor of Valencia. Ribó has expressed his "great concern" over the "increasingly evident degradation" of the city, which he believes is being "dismantled and sold to the highest bidders".
Ribó considers it essential that the former vice-president of the Generalitat and a key figure in Compromís be ratified by the local executive, as two months have passed since Oltra announced her return to politics with the intention of leading the municipal candidacy. The former mayor (2015-2023) has encouraged the party to "roll up our sleeves, get excited, and start working together, neighborhood by neighborhood, to recover the Valencia of dignity".

"We commit to rapidly advancing all necessary processes to democratically ratify Mónica Oltra as the head of Compromís' candidacy for the Valencia City Council."

For his part, the spokesperson for Compromís in Les Corts, Joan Baldoví, has expressed his conviction that the leaderships of the parties within the coalition will reach a "great agreement" for Oltra to head the candidacy. Oltra announced her intention to return to frontline politics in late March to be the candidate in the municipal elections, accepting the "challenge" posed by her party.
However, a month later, the spokesperson for Compromís in the City Council, Papi Robles, informed Oltra that the local executive would not ask her to be a candidate but would instead discuss internal procedural matters regarding the candidacy. This led Oltra to ultimately not attend an extraordinary executive meeting where her presence as a guest was initially planned.
