Thousands of Valencians have accompanied the Mare de Déu dels Desemparats in an emotional and multitudinous Transfer from the Basilica of the Virgin to the Cathedral of Valencia, which has modified its route due to works on Micalet street.

The image of the Virgen de los Desamparados left the Basilica punctually at 10:30 AM, amidst shouts of 'Valencians, tots a una veu: visca la Mare de Déu'. From there, it took the new route, not without first circling the Plaza de la Virgen. After this, it proceeded along the Plaza de la Almoina and Barchilla street until reaching the Puerta de los Hierros.
The Mare de Déu, carried by the Eixidors de la Virgen, was surrounded at all times by thousands of people who had gathered in the Plaza de la Virgen since the end of the Missa d'Infants, around 09:45 AM, and until the departure of the patron saint's image.
As the image passed, expressions of emotion and devotion from the public were common, as was the traditional ritual of some children being carried aloft over the crowd to reach the Virgin's mantle.
The Transfer proceeded normally, as the image left punctually and less than ten minutes later was already at the other end of the Plaza de la Virgen, circling the fountain, and at 10:45 AM heading along the Plaza de la Almoina and Barchilla street towards the Puerta de los Hierros of the Cathedral, where it entered past 11:00 AM, somewhat later than usual due to the route modification.
The president of the Generalitat and the mayor of Valencia, as well as a good part of the municipal corporation and the Consell and other authorities, witnessed the Transfer, as is customary, from the Casa Vestuario, from where they threw petals as the image passed.
The day of the patron saint's festival in Valencia began at five in the morning with the Missa de Descoberta, in the Basilica; at eight, the Missa d'Infants was held at the altar installed in the Plaza de la Virgen, and at 10:30 AM the Transfer began. In the afternoon, the General Procession will take place through the city center streets, starting at 5:30 PM.
