The Generalitat has allocated over 75 million euros in the Valencian Community over the past year and a half for the recovery of forest infrastructure, thereby strengthening fire prevention efforts.

As part of the Plan Endavant, extensive work has been undertaken to improve forest infrastructure, aiming to bolster prevention and response capabilities against fires. Of the total 93 million euros allocated, over 75 million have been invested in repairing forest tracks, roads, and paths damaged by the torrential rains of 2024.
To date, 4,034 kilometers of forest tracks have been rehabilitated, representing approximately 80% of the affected infrastructure. The plan is to complete another 700 kilometers of work this summer, including track repairs and road maintenance.
The exceptional rainfall from the 2024 'dana' caused significant damage to the natural environment, with some areas receiving a year's worth of rain in just a few hours. This severely deteriorated forest tracks, paths, and other infrastructure crucial for forest management and fire prevention.
Following an initial damage assessment, the Generalitat designed a phased action plan. The priority was to ensure main forest access routes were passable before the summer of 2025, allowing for the passage of surveillance and firefighting vehicles. A second phase is now addressing the definitive reconstruction of the damaged infrastructure.
These interventions have enabled the reopening of over 383 kilometers of tracks, paths, and roads, the repair of 3,650 kilometers of roadways across 21 counties and 189 municipalities in the provinces of Castellón and Valencia, and the recovery of forest observatories and water reservoirs.
The network of forest tracks is fundamental for fire prevention and suppression, facilitating emergency service access, territory surveillance, and rapid intervention. Forest observatories and water reservoirs are key for early detection and supplying firefighting resources.
Through these efforts, the Generalitat is not only repairing the damage caused by the 'dana' but also strengthening the territory's resilience against future extreme weather events and improving the protection of the natural environment and forest-dwelling municipalities in the Valencian Community.
