The Provincial Council of Valencia, in collaboration with À Punt, is commemorating the 750th anniversary of the death of James I by filming the painting 'Last moments of King James the Conqueror handing his sword to his son Don Pedro', by Ignacio Pinazo Camarlench.

The provincial institution's headquarters hosted the filming of this artwork, dated 1881, which was specially moved to the Salón de Reinas. The images will be part of a documentary being prepared by the news services of À Punt for the October 9th celebration.
The oil on canvas was transported with all necessary protective measures to ensure the preservation of a piece of such artistic and historical value. The painting depicts a key moment in Valencian history: the final moments of James I and his abdication in favor of his son Peter.

"This painting is the artistic representation of what we commemorate this year, the death of a king who sowed the seed of what Valencians are today; on the 750th anniversary of his death, we must be proud of his legacy."

Vicent Mompó · President of the Provincial Council of Valencia
The president of the Provincial Council of Valencia, Vicent Mompó, highlighted the painting's importance as an artistic reflection of the monarch's figure and his legacy. Mompó took advantage of the filming to thank À Punt for their initiative in producing the documentary.
