A total of seven Valencian entities, including public administrations, companies, universities, and research centers, have obtained European funds to participate in transnational cooperation projects. These initiatives focus on key areas such as energy efficiency, waste and water management, climate resilience, and the decarbonization of SMEs.
The overall budget for this Interreg NEXT MED call amounts to 128 million euros, of which 113 million are co-financed by the European Union. Each beneficiary entity receives EU funding close to 90 percent of its project's budget.
Beneficiary Valencian entities include the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), which received €482,380 for the 'COSBAMED' project focused on restoring Mediterranean soils; the Valencian Institute of Building, with €400,678 for 'PDS4NEXTMED' on energy efficiency in public buildings; the Human Team Foundation, with €315,819.17 for 'MyMedLand' on green training in agroforestry; and the Finnova Foundation, with €309,631 for 'MedGreenSkills' on youth employability in the ecological transition.
Other beneficiaries are Incubadora con Valores, receiving €277,733.40 for 'CIRCULAMed' (circular economy in rural areas); Pontydisgu, with €270,293 for 'GREEN4FARM' (farmer resilience through efficient water use); and the company Matteco, with €126,828 for 'H2BatMED' (integrating hydrogen and renewables in buildings).
The Interreg NEXT MED 2021-2027 program is the main multilateral initiative funded by the EU in the Mediterranean region, with a total budget of 260 million euros. The Valencian Community previously secured 3.4 million in the first edition, consolidating its participation in European cooperation networks.
The Generalitat also serves as the program's reference point for Western Mediterranean countries, coordinating and monitoring the initiative.
