Feijóo's presence in Valencia comes at a key moment for the party, with an eye on the municipal elections of May 2027. The national leadership aims to boost the party in a territory considered fundamental, despite recent organizational uncertainties, with a caretaker committee leading the party since late last year.
The provincial president, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, has been in an interim position for over six months, and his confirmation as a candidate for the Generalitat has not yet occurred. This situation generates anticipation regarding Feijóo's speech, who may clarify or maintain suspense about the aspirant to lead the party in the Valencian Community.
The national number two, Miguel Tellado, recently stated from Alicante that "there is no date for the celebration of this congress," avoiding confirming Llorca as a candidate and emphasizing the party's current work. This declaration opens the door to the possibility of going to the polls without a candidate defined by the bases.
The PP's Valencian agenda has been reactivated with gestures towards various relevant figures. The mayor of Valencia, María José Catalá, has received the support of national spokesperson Borja Sémper and national deputy secretary Jaime de los Santos, being highlighted by Miguel Tellado as a benchmark of municipalism. Esteban González Pons has also shown his support for Catalá.
Feijóo's visit to Sueca is also interpreted as a backing for Vicent Mompó, provincial president of the PP of Valencia, recognized for his ability to mobilize militants. Mompó and his team have organized the event, seeking greater recognition and influence within the party's internal power dynamics.
Party sources indicate that Feijóo must carefully choose his words to avoid generating more uncertainties. He is expected to give a message of reinforcement towards Llorca's figure, although it is not ruled out that a date for the regional congress may not be set. Additionally, Feijóo plans to visit Castellón soon for the second edition of the Forum of Diputations, Cabildos, and Consells.
In other news, the party has confirmed the mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala, as the candidate for the upcoming municipal elections, silencing doubts about his future after a scandal in the awarding of protected housing. Miguel Tellado highlighted Barcala's work and his high percentage of votes.
