The ninth edition of the Contorsions festival will turn València into the capital of contemporary circus from June 18-21. The event, promoted by the València City Council and organized by Yapadú Produccions, will offer free performances in various emblematic city spaces.
The delegate councilor for Cultural Action, José Luis Moreno, presented the program, highlighting that the city "will once again look upwards" with a consolidated event that will transform squares and theaters into open stages. Performances will be free until full capacity.
The program will take place at the Teatre El Musical (TEM), La Mutant, the Tinglado 2 of La Marina, and the Plaça de la Verge. The festival aims to bring circus arts to all audiences and turn urban spaces into a grand public stage.
The opening will be on Thursday, June 18, at the Plaça de la Virgen with the Catalan company Eunoia Kolektiva and their show 'Tenet', a performance by acrobats and a musician at 7:30 PM.
Contorsions champions a multidisciplinary circus that dialogues with other performing arts. Over four days, aerial acrobatics, juggling, balancing, clowning, and physical theater by Valencian, national, and international companies will be featured. The festival will also serve as a meeting point for industry professionals.
Among the parallel activities, there will be a free family workshop on Saturday, June 20, at 5 PM in the Tinglado 2 of La Marina, open to everyone without prior registration. Additionally, the cultural mediation project 'Mirades Contorsionades' will be repeated to introduce contemporary circus to new audiences.
The call for 'Mirades Contorsionades', which includes attending four shows and participating in meetings with the companies, will open in early June for adults.
The 'Llavoretes' section will showcase three emerging Valencian projects in development, to be presented on Sunday, June 21. This initiative fosters dialogue between artists and the public.
Councilor Moreno recalled that previous editions have attracted over 50,000 spectators, featuring more than 50 companies and 300 artists, establishing València on the contemporary circus map. Thanks to an agreement with the Creat school, students premiere their final projects within the festival.
