The vessel, which suffered a gastroenteritis outbreak that led to its confinement in Bordeaux, has arrived in Gijón. A team from Sanidad Exterior, part of the Ministry of Health, inspected the ship before allowing passengers to disembark. Initially, the death of a 92-year-old traveler was reported, but it was later confirmed that his death was unrelated to the viral outbreak, which initially affected about 80 people and has now decreased to about twenty active cases.
In Gijón, the same operation that took place in La Coruña, where the cruise ship docked last Saturday and disembarkation was authorized, will be replicated. Buses are prepared to transfer cruise passengers from El Musel to the vicinity of the Railway Museum, a meeting point in the city. The ship's health situation prompted a prior meeting between various authorities and entities to coordinate the arrival.
The operational plan stipulates that once the ship docks, Sanidad Exterior services will access the interior for a routine inspection and situation analysis, verifying compliance with public health and safety protocols. Only after this inspection will passengers be allowed to disembark.
“"I felt really sick for 24 hours and was isolated, but the worst has passed. They attended to me perfectly, maintained very close monitoring, and informed me to take certain precautions outside, like not touching things too much. Now I feel completely fine, in fact, I'm glad to be on land and enjoy the day. There's still a journey ahead."
Many passengers who disembarked in La Coruña expressed their gratitude for being able to go ashore and enjoy their holidays. For most, who did not fall ill, the only complications were the requirement to wash their hands more often and be careful about what they touched. Those who had gastroenteritis limited the impact to 24 hours of discomfort. After its stop in Asturias, the cruise ship will depart for Bilbao. The Asturias Government Delegation has issued a message of reassurance, stating that the situation is being monitored.
