The Ministry of Education has presented a new salary proposal that raises the remuneration improvement for Valencian teachers to 200 euros per month, in an attempt to de-escalate the strike entering its second week.

The Ministry of Education faces a key day in negotiations with teaching unions after presenting a new salary proposal. This offer, which could mean up to 200 additional euros per month for Valencian teachers, comes after a marathon meeting that concluded without a final agreement. Today's meeting, called on the seventh day of the strike, aims to resume talks and unblock the conflict.
The educational administration's proposal, planned for gradual implementation in three phases (75 euros in 2026, 75 euros in 2027, and 50 euros in 2028), represents a significant financial effort according to the Ministry, which argues it improves both the salary and working conditions of teachers.
However, unions such as STEPV maintain significant disagreements, warning that fundamental aspects such as reducing class ratios for the next academic year, increasing staffing levels, or rejecting the development of the Education Freedom Law remain unresolved. CCOO-PV also rejects measures linked to this legislation, while UGT-PV considers the scope of the proposed improvements insufficient.
The Ministry has agreed to open specific committees to study the reduction of class ratios based on budgetary availability and to create working groups on infrastructure, air conditioning, and reconstruction of centers affected by the dana (Mediterranean storm). The document also includes measures for digital disconnection and the future implementation of days of free disposition.
Union representatives, including ANPE and CSIF, will consult the proposal with their internal bodies before making a decision. While ANPE notes that the text incorporates part of its proposals, CSIF acknowledges progress but believes there is still room for improvement.
Today's meeting will be decisive in determining whether the economic rapprochement is sufficient to end the indefinite strike. Meanwhile, management teams of public schools have threatened collective resignation if the Ministry does not present a "written, serious, and sufficient" proposal with verifiable commitments.
Teachers are maintaining their planned mobilizations, with gatherings and protest events across the region. If an agreement is not reached today, protests will continue, including a day of events in front of the Ministry of Education in València on Wednesday, and gatherings before les Corts Valencianes (Valencian Parliament) and the Generalitat (Regional Government) in Castellón on Thursday.
