An Indonesian court has sentenced the captain of the tourist boat KM Putri Sakinah to three and a half years in prison for the shipwreck that took place at the end of last December in the Komodo National Park, in the Indonesian archipelago. On board, a Valencian family of six was traveling, of whom only two survived.

The court also sentenced the 22-year-old head of the engine room to two and a half years in prison. According to the police investigation, the 56-year-old captain was not the one controlling the helm when the accident occurred, but rather the head of the engine room, who did not possess the relevant license.

The vessel sank around 8:30 PM local time on December 26 in the waters of Padar Island (Komodo). Four members of the family originally from Valencia, including Fernando Martín Carreras—coach of the Valencia CF women's B team—died.

The captain, the head of the engine room, two other crew members, the guide, as well as Andrea Ortuño, Martín Carreras' partner, and a daughter of the couple, survived the shipwreck.
