The Compromís Municipal Group continues to promote its digital platform for collecting citizen complaints against tourist apartments that show irregularities. The group's spokesperson announced the compilation of 5,000 cases, denouncing the «absolute passivity» of the mayor in the face of a housing crisis that is worsening in the city's neighborhoods.
These complaints have been submitted by residents from across the city, who have documented, photographed, and geolocated potential illegal tourist apartments. According to the spokesperson, «thousands of people are doing the work that the municipal government should be doing. It is the citizens who are detecting irregularities while the Popular Party and Vox continue to look the other way».
“"From Compromís, we collect, validate, and submit complaints to the municipal registry on behalf of the citizens. We are fulfilling a function that should correspond to the Valencia City Council."
The Valencian political group believes that the situation demonstrates the failure of the current government's housing policy. «The housing crisis is now the main problem in the city, and touristification is displacing residents from their neighborhoods. Rents have soared by more than 40% since the Popular Party and Vox took office, and purchase prices already exceed 50% increases in many areas», added the spokesperson.
Furthermore, Compromís denounces that, out of more than 4,000 complaints filed months ago, the municipal government has only acted on 1.5%. The coalition assures that it will continue to promote the citizen platform and demand more forceful measures against tourist speculation, as «Valencia needs a government that protects the right to live in its neighborhoods, not the interests of speculators».
