The initiative, taking place from June 1st to 7th, aims to bring inclusive activities to various locations across the Valencian Community. The event was attended by the Mayor of Castellón, Begoña Carrasco, and the President of the ONCE Territorial Council in the Valencian Community, Enrique Llin Ruiz, along with other entity representatives, affiliated individuals, workers, and volunteers.
The mayor highlighted the honor for Castellón to host the start of a regional program that will "fill different cities with sensitivity and commitment." Carrasco praised the ONCE's work as "a deeply cherished and respected institution" that has improved the lives of thousands of blind or visually impaired people.
The mayor also reviewed municipal initiatives in accessibility, such as improvements to the Low Emission Zone, audible traffic lights, the Employment Plan reserving positions for people with disabilities, the inclusive mascletàs of the Magdalena festival, and the technological adaptation of municipal markets.
The ONCE Social Group Week will include activities such as blindfolded breakfasts, assistive technology showcases, musical performances by blind individuals, accessible exhibitions, films with audio description, and sports activities. According to Enrique Llin Ruiz, the program seeks to "give visibility to the work that the ONCE Social Group has been developing for 87 years," with a special focus on technology as an inclusion tool and universal access to culture and music.
Following the presentation, authorities visited an assistive technology exhibition in the City Council's Boardroom, where the use of adapted tools for people with severe visual impairments was explained. Devices such as adapted mobile phones and tablets, designed to promote personal autonomy and access to digital resources, were displayed.
Activities in Castellón will commence on Monday, June 1st, with the inauguration of the tactile exhibition Velázquez in your hands, open at the ONCE headquarters until June 5th. The regional program will also feature events in Alicante, Valencia, Orihuela, Alzira, Alboraia, Gandia, Xàtiva, Alcoy, Massamagrell, Dénia, Elda, and Elche throughout the first week of June.
