APM Terminals Valencia carried out the demolition of the STS QC907 crane this Thursday, the oldest in its facilities and which had been in service for over two decades. This action is part of the process of renewal and modernization of its operational equipment. The operation generated a notable dust cloud, which caused concern among nearby residents, although the company assures that it was carried out in a controlled manner and within normal operations.
The removal of this infrastructure is part of the terminal's usual machinery replacement cycle and follows the dismantling of the QC904 crane, carried out in 2024. Both units have been replaced by two new Liebherr cranes of the latest generation, which became operational at the beginning of 2025.
According to the company, the incorporation of this new equipment has significantly increased the operational capacity of the Valencian terminal. Furthermore, it improves its adaptation to the operations of larger container ships that currently call at the port.
The removal process of the STS QC907 was prepared over the past few weeks with a specific safety and operational coordination plan, aiming to ensure the work proceeded without affecting the terminal's usual activity.
With this action, APM Terminals Valencia advances in the update of its infrastructures and equipment, reinforcing its capacity to meet the new demands of maritime freight transport.
