The Parque del Mar Residents' Association demands "maximum agility and determination" in signing the urban planning agreement between the City Council and Adif for the decommissioning of the railway land. According to the association, the ministry has already conveyed its agreement, meaning "the Alicante City Council only needs to set the day and time for the final signing".
Residents express concern over information regarding the new urban development area OI/8, which plans for the construction of housing, hotels, and tertiary uses. Consequently, they have requested a meeting "as soon as possible" with the Councilor for Urban Planning, Antonio Peral, to understand the project's full scope and "demand that this major urban operation serves to resolve historical deficiencies in the neighborhood rather than eliminate public facilities".
The concern focuses on the future of the designated plot between Banda de Música los Claveles and Nadadora Carmen Soto streets, where the City Council had committed to developing a long-demanded public square.
As an integral solution, the association proposes including the municipal residential plot and the dilapidated Polígono IV of the Fábrica de Sacos within the OI/8 area. "We have been demanding the subsidiary demolition of the ruined houses of the Fábrica de Sacos for years," they explain, "including this residential land in the compensation with ADIF would allow the City Council to reduce the conversion of designated plots into housing and safeguard the land for the future park".
"Tired of promises and bureaucratic paralysis," the residents have announced a new protest schedule. The next gathering will take place on Thursday, June 11th, at 7:30 PM. They will demand administrative agility for the agreement's signing and urgent actions, such as the dismantling of the tracks and the creation of provisional pedestrian access to safely enjoy the Parque del Mar during the summer months.
