The province of Alicante closed the month of May with a tourist occupancy of 83.5% in hotels and apartments, a slight increase of 0.6 points compared to the same month last year. This figure represents the best indicator of the year so far, improving April's percentage by 1.2 points.
The performance by destination was uneven, although figures were particularly high in the city of Alicante and Playa de San Juan. The capital reached an occupancy of 91.1%, while Playa de San Juan recorded the provincial maximum with 95.7%, nearing full capacity throughout the month.
Other locations such as San Juan de Alicante (83%), Guardamar del Segura (78%), Moraira (77.1%), and Dénia (75.5%) also registered notable levels. For their part, Jávea and Santa Pola reached 73%, San Vicente del Raspeig 67.2%, El Campello 66.3%, Orihuela 63.6%, and Algorfa 56.1%.
The tourist clientele was predominantly international, representing 77.5% of the total, compared to 22.5% of national visitors. The main foreign market was the United Kingdom (22.2%), followed by Ireland (7.4%), Sweden (5.5%), and Germany (5.5%). France (5.4%), Poland (4.8%), Netherlands (4.7%), Norway (4.6%), Italy (4.4%), and the United States (3.6%) also had a presence.
In the national market, the main visitors came from the Community of Madrid (27.1%) and the Valencian Community itself (25.4%). Following them are Catalonia (9.9%), Andalusia (8%), Castilla-La Mancha (5.7%), and Castilla y León (5%).
Forecasts for June indicate a further improvement in tourist activity, with an expected occupancy of 86.8%, a figure higher than in the same period last year. This advance consolidates the start of the high season in the province and confirms the importance of coastal destinations with strong international demand.
