Teachers in the Valencian Community have endured five days of an indefinite strike with an average participation rate of 34.52%, according to official data from the Generalitat. This means approximately 27,000 teachers have supported the protests each day, impacting their May salaries.
The economic cost of the strike varies based on salary group (A2 for teachers, A1 for professors) and professional trajectory, including seniority increments and proportional extra payments. The Generalitat deducts from base salary, destination, and specific complements.
The Coordinadora d'assemblees docents del País Valencià (CADPV) estimates an average net loss of 150 euros per teacher per day. Consequently, those who participated in the first five strike days face a cost exceeding 500 euros. With nearly 27,000 teachers participating daily, the total cost to public funds could reach 13 million euros.
The continuation of the strike depends on educators' financial capacity to withstand these losses. The Conselleria d'Educació will present a new comprehensive proposal on Monday, which will include salary improvements – a point previously omitted that angered teachers, even if not the primary negotiation issue.
The shift in tone from the PPCV, which has softened its stance after observing the mobilization's success and the concern expressed by mayors, suggests a potential for better understanding between the parties. The party recognizes the need to de-escalate tension and has adopted a more conciliatory discourse.
