The 9th Blood Donation Marathon of Alicante, organized by the Valencian Community Transfusion Center (CTCV) and ASISA, brought together 488 people at the Provincial Archaeological Museum of Alicante (MARQ). The event, held on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, highlights the strong commitment of Alicante's citizens to donation. Of these, 58 made their first donation, contributing to the necessary generational renewal to guarantee the blood reserves for the province's hospitals.
Throughout the day, hundreds of donors visited MARQ to show their support for blood donation, helping to maintain stable reserves that cover healthcare needs. The public response once again reflected the great sensitivity and solidarity of Alicante society with this vital cause.
The marathon featured significant participation from the Special Operations Command (MOE), with over a hundred military personnel making their donations, continuing a traditional collaboration. Police officers, ASISA professionals, and donors from across the province also participated.
The Councilor for Health of the Alicante City Council, Luis Alfonso Morata, visited the event, made his donation, and emphasized the municipal commitment. "The response from Alicantines has been extraordinary. Every donation represents a life opportunity," he stated, assuring that the City Council will continue promoting actions to attract more donors.
Dr. Mabel Ortiz de Salazar, Head of Service at the Transfusion Center in Alicante, thanked the involvement: "The magnificent response obtained shows that Alicante is a province committed to blood donation." Meanwhile, Dr. Paula Giménez, councilor of Lavinia-ASISA, highlighted the pride in collaborating on an initiative that "reflects the values of solidarity and commitment to health".
The Provincial Council of Alicante gifted donors with double tickets for MARQ, while the Alicante City Council raffled VIP tickets for the Hogueras festival and ten official Hércules CF jerseys.
On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day (June 14th), Santa Bárbara Castle will be illuminated in red as a tribute to blood donors.
The Valencian Community Transfusion Center especially thanks ASISA, MARQ, the Provincial Council, and the Alicante City Council for their collaboration in making this solidarity day a success.
