Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel García-Margallo, has generated controversy by asserting that Benito Mussolini's government seems "better" than the current Spanish executive led by Pedro Sánchez. Margallo made these statements during his participation in the television program "Todo es mentira" on Cuatro.
The former minister argued that "a government that is legitimate in origin can fall into illegitimacy of exercise," and used Mussolini, who "was elected by the Italian Parliament," as an example. In response to these words, Más Madrid deputy Emilio Delgado questioned him about the "delirium" that led him to make such a comparison.
To recall the historical context, it should be noted that Mussolini was the driving force behind fascism in Italy and allied himself with Adolf Hitler during World War II. The comparison has been widely criticized by various political sectors.
Even the son of former socialist minister José Luis Ábalos, currently in prison, has questioned García-Margallo's statements, despite it being presumed that he might be more angered by Sánchez than the PP ex-minister.
