The CESM Medical Union has confirmed it will maintain the medical strike during the last week of May and has called for a demonstration in Alicante for next Wednesday, May 20, as part of a new week of stoppages.

The march will start at 6:30 PM from the Plaza del Mercado Central and will proceed through the city center to the Casa de las Brujas, the headquarters of the Generalitat in Alicante. The protest will be held under the slogan «Bring your gown and your briefcase, they're kicking us out!».

"The mobilization seeks to demand quality public healthcare, respect for the medical profession, and better conditions to ensure patient well-being."

This call is part of the ongoing conflict over the Framework Statute and the working conditions of medical and faculty staff. CESM demands its own framework for the profession, organizational improvements, and measures against healthcare overload.
The union states that the strike is a response to the lack of sufficient progress in negotiations and maintains the mobilizations as a pressure tactic. In the Valencian Community, the protest will also have a presence in Valencia and Castellón during that week.
