The prestigious film festival in Sax reaches its twentieth edition, to be held from July 5th to 11th. This year, the festival introduces significant innovations, including a specific category for short films created with artificial intelligence, which will compete in the official section despite not having a cash prize. Additionally, the maximum duration for submitted works has been extended to 59 minutes.
To commemorate the anniversary, a total of 33 short films will be screened in the official section, with nine designated for children and youth audiences. The special program includes a screening of Moros y Cristianos en Sax (1926) by Joan Andreu Moragas, the first film shot in the town, which celebrates its centenary this year. The screening will take place on July 5th at Casa Alberto Sols, with free admission.
The festival also honors the career of Alicante-based actress Sonia Almarcha, recognized for her versatility in numerous national productions. The closing gala, on July 11th, hosted by comedian Jandro, will feature the awards ceremony and the tribute to Almarcha's career, who had her beginnings at the festival.
Other notable activities include a special screening of the film A salto de mata by Carlos Escolano on July 10th, and the presentation of the book Dirección y producción de festivales de cine by Miguel Herrero. The competition for short films will be held outdoors at Casa Alberto Sols, between July 6th and 9th.
