The transfer of an important documentary collection, comprising 84 boxes of manuscripts, drawings, and correspondence, has been formalized at the Provincial Historical Archive of Alicante. The official ceremony was attended by the Archive's director, María del Olmo, the regional secretary for Culture, Marta Alonso, and representatives of the Altamira family, such as his great-grandson Ignacio Ramos Altamira.
Among the documents, a letter dated January 1, 1935, stands out, in which the then mayor of El Campello, Vicente Payá, informed Altamira of the Town Council's decision to name a street after him, which endures to this day, and to organize a tribute.
The collection also includes articles, reports, speeches, academic and professional records, accreditations, titles, and medals, as well as documentation related to his candidacy for the Nobel Peace Prize between 1933 and 1951. The Altamira family has indicated that it would be desirable for the Residencia de Estudiantes in Madrid to also open its archives for complete dissemination.
The incorporation of this legacy into the Provincial Historical Archive of Alicante will translate into greater access and consultation facilities for researchers, specialists, and the general public.
