The operation took place last Friday in the area leading up to Santa Barbara Castle. Officers set up a surveillance operation after receiving information from Italy regarding the suspect's possible presence on the Costa Blanca, where he intended to meet his son for his upcoming birthday.

The detainee, who had managed to evade justice for a year, attempted to flee upon spotting police in the La Ereta park parking lot. Despite resisting, officers managed to subdue and arrest him. At the time of his arrest, the man was carrying two thousand euros in cash.

Italian authorities link the detainee to an extortion case from last June, where he allegedly demanded money from a builder under threat of retaliation. The fugitive has been placed at the disposal of the National Court, which will process his extradition to Italy to face charges of belonging to a criminal organization.
