This agreement raises the total contract value, awarded to Netial (Prezero España SAU and FCC Medio Ambiente SA), to €377,474,995.38 for the period 2023-2031. The modification, effective July 1st, responds to a commitment made with Vox and staff demands for a five-day work week with two days off.
The new plan includes the addition of 22 new vehicles, many equipped with high-pressure water jet systems, and an increase in staff by 120 to 130 new positions. The Councilor for Cleaning, Rafael Alemañ, highlighted that this contract enhancement aims to bolster the collection of pruning waste and debris, implement the ecopark plan, and now increase staff and cleaning equipment.
Manual sweeping will be improved with support from high-pressure water jet vehicles, particularly in neighborhoods and high-traffic areas, with attention to container islands, squares, and children's and calisthenics play areas. The goal is to maintain cleanliness for longer hours, reduce response times, and strengthen weekend services.
The reorganization plans to reinforce manual sweeping starting July 1st with up to 33 new teams, including vehicles with high-pressure water jet systems. The service for inspecting container areas will also be extended to afternoons and weekends.
Specifically, motorized manual sweeping with auxiliary vehicles equipped with high-pressure water jets will double, from 6 to 12 teams in the neighborhoods. Additionally, 3 support teams will be introduced in the city center from midday onwards. Manual sweeping will be reinforced on Saturday afternoons, Sunday mornings, and Monday afternoons.
Square cleaning will be enhanced on Sundays year-round with 6 teams, and an additional team will be added for cleaning children's and calisthenics play areas. High-pressure water cleaning of the exterior of container areas will also improve with 2 extra teams, and 6 teams will be incorporated for cleaning road stains.
Finally, the service for cleaning around container areas will be extended to weekday afternoons with 4 additional teams, and will be maintained on Saturdays and Sundays during both morning and afternoon shifts.
The Head of the Cleaning Service, Manuel Marco, explained that 22 new vehicles are being added: 6 electric, 6 gasoline with high-pressure water jet equipment, 6 vans with wide-range high-pressure water jet systems, and 4 trucks with collection boxes. These teams are expected to create around 40 jobs, including permanent and weekend positions.
The planned staff reinforcement will exceed 120 jobs, aiming to improve daily cleaning in neighborhoods and strengthen weekend services in high-traffic areas.
